Our Angel Garden preschool provides an age-appropriate program that encourages children to learn, play and explore. The learning that children do before the age of five is very important to their overall development.  We offer a program that is warm and welcoming and provides a child friendly environment. Your children will have the opportunity to develop all the necessary skills to succeed in kindergarten.

Essential to our program are well-planned activities which allow for child-choice and self-directed play, small groups and supportive teaching. Your child will find an endless assortment of activities that engage his/her interest and challenge his/her young mind.

In preschool, your child will have fun learning!  Our primary goal is to encourage healthy self-esteem and productive play and socialization skills.  We offer a full curriculum for kindergarten readiness.  This includes handwriting, literacy, and math readiness.  The activities combine songs, sensory experiences and fine motor exercises to engage all levels of development.  Parents have the opportunity to formally conference with the teacher on their child’s progress twice during the school year, and by special arrangement if necessary. Teachers are always available for parental questions and concerns.

Examples of some of the activities that we will engage your child in:

  • Get set for school / forming numbers and letters.
  • Word time with Squawker the parrot puppet.
  • Spanish lessons with Señora Winchell.
  • Imagination station/ using art materials to make a unique creation.
  • Outdoor play on the playground.
  • Moving to music with scarf dancing.

There are two Pre-requisites for admission to Pre-K. Children must be the appropriate program age by the beginning of the school-year (3 years old for the 3-year programs and 4 years old for the 4 year programs) and your child must be potty-trained and not diaper dependant prior to starting in the fall. We do not screen for Pre-K admissions but siblings of currently registered children are afforded first priority of acceptance.

Children who are enrolled our  Preschool program and who will turn 5 prior to December 31st, are eligible to apply and will have priority acceptance into our Kindergarten program for the following year, conditional upon the demonstration of “Readiness” as determined by the established criteria of our Kindergarten screening process.

Our head teacher is Mrs. Mary Merly.  Her teaching assistant is Mrs. Maureen Capuano. Both teachers joined our teaching staff in 2008.  Both had already been active members of our school community as parents of two St. James students a piece.

Visiting Our Preschool

We welcome parents to visit our school.  Appointments are not necessary, however, we do recommend that you call us the morning of or day prior to the visit to verify that we are here.  On early dismissal days, we do not have an afternoon preschool session and there are various holidays and teacher in-service days when we are not in session at all.
