Welcome to the Official website of St. James School.

St James Regional School Welcome to the St. James School website. St. James serves the educational, spiritual, and social needs of 440 students in grades pre-k through eight and is part of the Diocese of Bridgeport. Our home is located just next to Academy Hill in the heart of the beautful historic district of Stratford, Connecticut.

Our website has been created to help our friends learn about the wonderful faith and learning community that is St. James. In these pages we hope to help students and parents keep abreast of school events. Please note that, in order to better serve our community, we are in the process of a complete site renovation. We anxiously await the unveiling of our updated website sometime in the 2007-2008 school year. Please be patient with us in the interim and accept our apologies for any information that is not up to date as of this time. We are very grateful to the many hands that help keep the good news at St. James on the web for everyone to access!

They were presented with challenges which required teamwork, planning, and lateral thinking.

On May 5, 2008, Mrs. Deborah Rusatsky, St. James Junior High Teacher, was honored by the University of Hartford and keynote speaker, Senator Chrispher Dodd. "Mrs. R." was selected from a pool of national entries to receive the 2008 Joseph Zola Holocaust Educator Award from the Maurice Greenberge Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Hartford. Her submission was the very challenging "Anne Frank" literature project that Mrs.R. requires of her seventh grade literature class. Also being recognized with her are two of her students; John Bennet and Colby Cayton, are also being commended for their research and caliber of written work. Mrs. Rusatsky will be presenting her project to fellow educators at the 2008 Holocaust Educators workshop at the University next October. The Holocaust is a subject of passion for Mrs. R. as reflected in the words of her acceptance speech, which you can read by clicking HERE.

We are pleased to report that all fourth grade students in the Diocese of Bridgeport underwent mandatory mathematics testing in two-parts (part one in addition and subtraction and part two in multiplication and division). One hundred percent of our fourth graders attained an 85% or higher score on these benchmark assessments. Grade four teachers, Mrs. Ann Battaglia and Ms. Christine Nealy are to be commended along with their students for their hard work and preparation in this and all subject areas!

Our St. James Heart-Filled Hawks, our Relay for Life youth team, which has been the leading youth team in Stratford for serveral years running, is on the road to a record-breaking year. They have already collected over $4,800 through a variety of activities, including a Relay for Life Carnival held in the gym recently.

  • For the fifth consecutive year, St. James has been awarded a grant from the Koch Foundation. These funds supplement our religion program and support our faith-centered activities.
  • Our Early Intervention Reading program, which identifies and works with "at risk" early readers from K-3, has received a grant from The Daphne Syebold Culpeper Memorial Foundation that will enable this essential service to continue.
  • Our Preschool received a grant through the Stratford Library Association for a early school readiness quality enhancement project.

We are blessed with a community full of very gifted, giving and talented youth and adults. If you would like to share good news about your St. James student or graduate, please e-mail us at info@stjamesstratord.org.

We know that the power of prayer is a truly amazing and miraculous thing. Under the direction of Mrs. Kyburz, the children are creating a visible reflection of our prayers in a prayer chain that will hang on the walls throughout the entire building. Mrs. Kyburz states that "we as a school community lift our cares ad burdens and simply TRUST and BELIEVE that God is working in the lives of the people that have been placed in our hearts." If you would like to contribute a name for our prayer chain, please e-mail that to us by clicking HERE.
