Officers Reports

President’s report-Nima Grinvalsky

Thank you everyone who worked so hard on our events the past few months.  Thank you to all that worked the Book Fair, Bottle and Can Drive, The Halloween Dance and the Christmas Fair.  I truly know how hard you worked and just how much time and effort you all have put into the school.  I really appreciate your commitment to our school and our children.  Without people like you, we could not run these events!

We have a few events coming up this week:

  1. Bottle and Can drive, Saturday morning 11/22/14 from 9-12
  2. Pie Sale pick up was 11/24/14
  3. Congratulations to all the children who made honors and was able to attend the honors breakfast.  Thank you to the parents to guiding your children.

Vice President’s report:  Kelly LaValle and Jessica Curran

  1. HSA by-laws are posted on the school website.
  1. Volunteering is always needed, sign up on:  SignUpGenius.  Please watch for emails for this.  We are still in need of volunteers for many events.
  2. Bingo still needs a great deal of help. Suggestion: sign up with a friend.  This is a great way to meet other Saint James parents.
  3. We have some new line of Saint James clothing coming soon.  Samples are being made.

Spirituality Report:  Dr. Van Buren

  1. 7th and 8th grade required to complete their service hours.
  2. Next school Mass 10/3/14, 8th graders can bring their pets to be blessed.
  3. Mark your calendars 1/15/15, the Bishop will be at Mass.
    Prayers needed for Mrs. Ramos and for Mrs. McCormick for her brother.
  4. Blanket Ministry.
  5. Please keep all of our families struggling with loss in your prayers.

Committee Reports

Bingo:  Barbara Siegler
Help needed on Fridays:  SignUpGenius
Need another team per month.

  • Need 2-3 co-captains per month.
    Book Fair:  Tim Brennan   Thank you and all other volunteers for taking on this event.
  • Pie Sale:  Teresa Strazza  Thank you for all your hard work!

Pie Sale ended 10/22/14 & Pie pick up was 11/25/14


  • Bottle and Can Drive:  Need a Volunteer for this
    Saturday 11/22/14 from 9 to 12.
    Next date TBT.
    Many volunteers needed, even if you can only help for 1 hour, please come and help


  • Father’s Club  Tim Brennan and Mike Augustine
    Boyd:  Thank you for taking on the raffle for the TV and other electronics for the Christmas Fair.  It was a big hit!


  • Halloween Dance:  Melissa Figueroa
    The dance was 10/25/14 and was a great time of all students and parents who came!!
    Thank you so much Melissa Figueroa for Making this dance happen with all your hard work and many thanks for any volunteers who help as well.


  • Christmas Fair:  Cindy Kelly
    It was open to the public
    New this year was:  Jingle Jog
    Airbrush face painting.
    Craft table for the kids.
    Santa came 10-12, earlier than last year, so the children who needed naps can have them.
    80 Vendors.
    Thank you so much Cindy Kelly and ALL the other volunteers that put in hours and hours to have this event be a success


  • Mixed Bags:  Erin Fernschild  Thank you for finding this and making it a success.
    This was a great fundraiser
    There will be another mixed bags design fundraiser in February 2015.  45% goes towards the school!! just awesome


Open Discussion:  Expectations/Concerns:


  1. Promote more health and wellness.
  2. Hikes, children’s yoga, ski trip, health and wellness fair.
  3. Spirit sticks for incentives or fundraiser.
  4. New fundraisers.
  5. Need a meeting of the minds.
  6. Lockdown, weather and fire drills.  When will they happen and parents want to know when.
  7. Bricks for books:  Bricks are damaged.
  8. Room changes are on hold.
  9. Parents request to be alerted by text for emergencies, school closings, etc.
  10. Faith sharing??  Budget?- needed material, was ordered in the fall for teachers who requested them.


Announcements/Upcoming events:

  • Box tops:  send them in and help your child’s class win the most collected each month.  Please make sure the date has not expired on the box top and that it is cut out neatly.  Many hands make light work for the person who will have to trim them and check the date.
  • Bingo really needs a leader or 2 to help with Friday Bingo.  Please sign of to volunteer if you have not done so yet.
  • Cash raffle began on 11/21/14 and ended in January 2015.
  • Bottle and Can Drive is on Saturdays and the next date TBT.  We still need a chair person.
  • November 26th was a half day with prayer service.
  • December 8th was No School.
  • December 10th was the Children’s Christmas Fair where they were able to pick out gifts for their friends and families.
  • Christmas Pageant was December 17th.  It was very nice to see our children perform their talents.  Thank you for all that made this pageant a success.
  • December 12th was canfiguration judging.  Congratulations to the winners!!
  • December 23 was a half a day.  Christmas break began and we return back to school on January 6th.
  • January 19th was no school.  Martin Luther King Day.
  • HSA next meeting was on February 25, 2015.
  • HSA next meetings are:  March 25, April 29, May 20 and no meeting in June.
